TD Azlan Belgium : Van Roey Automation entrusts the security of its shop to Axis network cameras
Mission
In 2003, Van Roey Automation called upon Axis to protect its entire building. “Shortly after our move to Turnhout,” recalls Patrick Van Roey, company director, “we had a few attempted break-ins. The second time, the burglars took a pallet of laptop computers. In October 2004, after a third broken window, I decided that it was time to better protect the shop using cameras.”
Solution
Various alternatives were explored. The distributor Azlan offered Van Roey the option of testing and comparing several camera brands and models. It quickly became clear that the network camera offered a number of advantages. Equipped with an integrated computer, it worked completely independently. To record or transfer images, the only requirement was access to an IP network, which could be wireless (LAN, intranet or Internet). Several duly authorized people can access the same images from different locations. Linked to an alarm unit or detector, digital input enables images to be sent from the camera to a designated receiver. The alarm can then be sent to a cell phone by e-mail or SMS. And thanks to digital output, it is possible– remotely, or automatically in the event of an alarm– to open or close doors, and switch lights off or on. Another important advantage is that network cameras have a buffer memory, which groups the images preceding and immediately following the alarm.
For Van Roey Automation, Axis network cameras represent the best solution in terms of quality/price ratio. The integrated web server enables remote monitoring via a LAN or via the Internet and a standard browser. Twenty users can have full or partial access to the images at the same time using a password. In addition, image quality is very high.
Organization:
“Axis,” continues Patrick Van Roey, “was the only supplier to offer such a comprehensive and professional selection, from which we were able to choose a solution tailored to our particular security problem. We have installed 9 Axis network cameras in strategic places within the company in order to be able to observe all movements. This method of protection requires only a minimum amount of our time: just one person is responsible for surveillance. I also have access to the images, wherever I happen to be (at home or on holiday), at any time of the day. A simple Internet connection is all that is needed. During one of the attempted burglaries, I was on holiday abroad. I felt powerless, as I couldn’t see what was going on. If this happens again, I will be able to see what has happened and take the necessary measures.”
Result
At Van Roey Automation, the effect of the network cameras is twofold. Firstly, the people who work at the cash registers are reassured, knowing that their workstation is constantly monitored. When it is late, particularly on weekends, the technical department counter is often understaffed or even unmanned. A colleague can now easily monitor the counter from his or her office. This allows everybody to better concentrate on their work. The cameras also form a psychological barrier that deters break-ins.
